It has been a demanding run for the 2s, who currently sit 10th in Division 4B with 102 points from eight matches. The table remains tight around the lower end, with Stevenage just above them on 106 and Preston on 115, so there is still plenty to play for and no shortage of incentive. At the top, Luton Town & Indians lead the way on 196 points, with Old Albanian and Boxmoor still very much in the mix, while this weekend’s hosts Lutonian sit fourth on 170 points after a strong first half of the campaign.

Captain Adrian Lee will lead the side again and knows that the table can change quickly if Hoddesdon can put together a complete performance. “The lads know where we are and nobody is hiding from it,” said Lee. “We have had some tough Saturdays, but there is still a lot of cricket to be played and the important thing is that we keep fronting up, keep learning and keep backing each other. We have shown in flashes what we are capable of, but now it is about putting batting, bowling and fielding together for longer periods of the game.”

We have to be positive, do the basics better than we have done at times, and make sure we compete hard for the full game.”

One of the big boosts for Hoddesdon is the return of Charlie Tackley, who comes back into the side after spending the last couple of weeks with the 1st XI. Charlie has already shown this season that he can handle responsibility with the ball, and his return gives Adrian Lee another genuine option in an attack that also includes Bilal Ahmad, Freddie Webb, Henry Taylor, George Kimberley and the Hawkins pairing. With conditions likely to be hot and demanding, the ability to share the bowling load sensibly could be crucial.
