Rob Walters and Sam Davies both score 100's against Shenley before the rain set in and the match was abandoned.

Saturday 20th of June saw Hoddesdon’s first XI return to Lowfield for only their third home game of the season. Following a complete wash out from the previous weekends cricket away Vs Reed CC the lads were in a positive frame of mind and with a good weeks training in the tank were hungry for another good performance and 30 points.

The Shenley Village skipper won the toss and with rain forecast put Hoddesdon in to have first use of what looked like a decent deck. Our very own Hales and Roy in the fine forms of skipper Walters and (Rob) Jones started with good measure of expansive shots and diligence against the new ball and saw the score to 50 when the loss of Jones to a well disguised slower ball from the Shenley Village opening stalwart. This bought Sam Davis to the crease and both Walters and Davis continued to smote good and bad balls alike to the fence Hoddesdon began to compile a good total.

Skipper Walters and Davis went through the gears and were utterly dominant as Shenley chopped and changed their attack to try and get a foothold in the game. Both batsmen continued to pepper both offside and leg side boundaries at will, both compiling fantastic tons and continue to be a formidable partnership. Both unselfishly lost their wickets in the desire to score as many runs in as short a time to enable the bowlers to get their teeth into the Shenley batting line up. Hoddesdons innings finished at an exquisite 316-5.

With rain becoming a factor Hoddesdon prepared to take to the field and make early inroads into the Shenley Village batting line up but after only 5 balls Lowfield received a substantial deluge and unfortunately the teams were unable to resume play.

Hoddesdon look forward to visiting West Herts at an integral part of the season with the following game Vs league leaders Botany Bay the following week. Skipper Walters was asked by a local news correspondent about the batting performance on Saturday and his response was short and succinct ‘Pleur!’
