Saturday 2nd May saw Hoddesdon first eleven taken on Enfield CC in their last pre-season friendly. Hoddesdon went into this match having won their last 2 pre-season matches comfortably against Harlow and Broxbourne.
Having lost the toss, Hoddesdon were put into bat and got off to a good start with openers Rob Walters and Rob Jones scoring early on against the Enfield bowling attack. Walters fell to a lucky catch in the slips for 15 and Jones was joined at the crease by Sam Davis. Davis and Jones continued to play positively scoring from the bad ball until Jones caught for 37 and Davis ran himself out for 43.
Overseas Josh Bailey then steady the ship scoring 57 for 93 balls whilst Todd Sturdy struggled to get off the mark and was bowled for 0. Bailey was joined at the crease by Ex Enfield captain Antony Higgs who managed a steady 25 before he was bowled by Edwards in the second to last over. Player Coach Martin Brown (12 n.o) and wicket keeper Rhys Jones (2 n.o) saw out the last over of the Hoddesdon innings running well between the wicket. Hoddesdon finished on 214 after 45 overs.
In the field Hoddesdon managed to strike early on thanks to Sam Davis and Enfield's Jack Plumb cut a short ball to Bailey at point. Hoddesdon continued to bowl good areas but lucky wasn't on their side as A number of chances went a miss and the Enfield Middle order started to hit out. Enfield's Tony Sayers punished the short ball hitting three 6's off one over and by this stage the game was firmly within Enfield's sight. Enfield finished on 218-3.
George Duke was the pick of Hoddesdons bowlers finishing with figures of 2-39 off 7 overs.
