With permission we share below the words of our former chair and good friend to Simon, Nick Gandon.
"It is so sad to be sharing the news that my good friend Simon Prodger, a cricket man through and through who believed passionately that cricket should be a force for good, died suddenly on Saturday 8 April at far too young an age. A stylish left-handed batsman, amongst other clubs he played at Harlow CC, Hoddesdon CC, Harefield CC and Watford Town where, in the case of the latter, he also served as its Chairman. Additionally, he was Managing Director of the National Cricket Conference and Club Cricket Conference, in which capacities he fought tirelessly to ensure that the vital roles played by recreational clubs were properly recognised and supported by the powers-that-be. As a trustee of the Club Cricket Charity, he was instrumental in securing funding from the ECB to distribute defibrillators to clubs - not without its irony given the cause of his untimely departure from us.
Years before words like "Inclusivity" and "Diversity" became part of the national lexicon, “Prodge” sought to make cricket a game for everyone regardless of who they were and from where they hailed. He played an important part in establishing the South Asian Cricket Association and African Caribbean Cricket Association and in helping to integrate them into cricket’s mainstream. On top of all of this, he was a driving force behind the East Africa Character Development Trust, a charity bringing hope and opportunity through cricket to thousands of young, disadvantaged Kenyans from slum communities in Nairobi. Cricket has lost a special person, decent, thoughtful and loyal to the core.. Very special thoughts to his family"
