New Deal Announced For Cricket Club Members

'The cricket and football communities share so many faces, stories, and friendships, and this helps bring them even closer together...'
- Steve Wheatcroft - Membership Secretary

Hoddesdon Cricket Club Members to Enjoy Reduced Entry at Lowfield for All Hoddesdon Town FC First Team Matches

In another exciting step forward for local sport and community collaboration, Hoddesdon Cricket Club is delighted to announce that all current club members can now enjoy reduced entry prices to Lowfield for every Hoddesdon Town Football Club First Team home game.

This fantastic new arrangement forms part of the ongoing partnership between the two historic clubs, built on a shared vision to open up Lowfield 365 days a year and strengthen the connection between cricket, football, and the local community.

The initiative is the latest chapter in what’s becoming an increasingly close working relationship between the clubs, both of whom share not just facilities but a proud heritage and a passionate fanbase. It’s a move that highlights the clubs’ joint ambition to make Lowfield a true year-round hub of sporting activity — and a home for everyone in Hoddesdon to enjoy.

A True “Lowfield 365” Collaboration

Since the launch of the new Lowfield365 membership card last year, many Hoddesdon Cricket Club members have asked whether their membership could offer them benefits during the football season. While league rules prevent Hoddesdon Town FC from granting free entry, the football club — led by chairman Stuart Varney — have gone to great lengths to find a way to welcome cricket club members into the Lowfield family all year round.

As part of the new agreement, adult members of Hoddesdon Cricket Club will now pay just £5 (instead of £7) to attend Hoddesdon Town FC First Team matches at Lowfield, while concessions (ages 12–17 and over 65) will enjoy entry for £3 (down from £5).

In addition, cricket club members can continue to take advantage of up to 20% off their round at the bar by showing their Lowfield365 membership card — a benefit that applies throughout the year, not just during the summer months.

The reduced entry fee applies to Hoddesdon Town FC First Team matches only, and does not include Dunmow Town FC home games, who are ground-sharing at Lowfield this season. However, fans should note that entry to Hoddesdon Town FC Under-23 home games remains completely free for everyone — making them an ideal option for families, juniors, and anyone wanting to see even more sport at Lowfield.

A Warm Thank You to the Football Club

Hoddesdon Cricket Club would like to express its sincere thanks to Hoddesdon Town FC Chairman Stuart Varney and the entire football committee for their generosity and open-minded approach in agreeing to this initiative. The arrangement is a shining example of two long-standing town institutions working together to make sport more accessible, more connected, and more community-driven.

Cricket Club Chairman Ian Munday: “It’s About Shared Spirit and Shared Space”

Speaking about the announcement, Hoddesdon Cricket Club Chairman Ian Munday praised the partnership and said the move reflected everything the clubs are trying to achieve together.

This is a really positive step for both clubs and for the town,” Munday said. “We’ve always said that Lowfield isn’t just a cricket ground or a football ground — it’s a shared space that belongs to Hoddesdon and the people who support local sport. This new arrangement is about encouraging that shared spirit.”

He continued:

Our members already love the idea of the Lowfield365 card, and now, thanks to the support of Stuart and the football committee, they can continue enjoying the facilities during the winter months too. It’s exactly what we’ve been trying to build — a partnership that makes Lowfield feel alive all year round.

Munday, who has been instrumental in fostering closer links between the clubs, added:

We’re incredibly grateful to Hoddesdon Town FC for recognising the value in collaboration. This is what makes a community club special — when different sports, committees, and volunteers come together with a common purpose. It’s another small but important step toward making Lowfield one of the most vibrant community sports venues in Hertfordshire.

Hoddesdon Cricket Club Membership Manager Steve Wheatcroft, who has been heavily involved in developing the Lowfield365 membership scheme, said the feedback from members had been overwhelmingly positive.

Since we introduced the Lowfield365 membership, we’ve had so many members asking if their card could be used during football season,” Wheatcroft explained. “We knew it was something people really wanted — and now we’re thrilled to be able to say yes.

This is a fantastic value addition for our members. For just £5 entry to see Hoddesdon Town FC’s First Team in action, it’s a brilliant way to keep the connection with the club and the ground going all year round.

He also emphasised that the initiative strengthens community ties:

It’s not only about saving a couple of pounds at the gate — it’s making Hoddesdon’s sporting family even more united. The cricket and football communities share so many faces, stories, and friendships, and this helps bring them even closer together.

Wheatcroft encouraged all members to make use of the offer this winter:

I’d urge every cricket club member to get down to Lowfield on a Saturday afternoon, or a Tuesday or Friday evening, and cheer the lads on. The atmosphere is always fantastic, and you’re supporting your local club in the process. Just bring your membership card to the turnstile and enjoy the match!

Football Club Chairman Stuart Varney: “We’re Delighted to Welcome Our Friends from the Cricket Club”

Hoddesdon Town FC Chairman Stuart Varney said the decision to offer reduced entry prices to cricket club members was an easy one, reflecting the excellent relationship that has been built between the two committees.

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome our friends from Hoddesdon Cricket Club to Lowfield throughout the football season,” Varney said. “There’s always been a natural connection between our two clubs, but over the past couple of years that relationship has really grown — and this arrangement is a reflection of that.

Both clubs share a commitment to making Lowfield a place that the whole town can be proud of. Whether it’s cricket in the summer or football in the winter, the ground should always be alive with sport, community spirit, and friendship. That’s what we’re building together.

Varney also paid tribute to the collaboration and volunteer spirit driving both clubs forward:

What makes this work is that everyone involved genuinely cares about Hoddesdon — about the people, the clubs, and the shared history. We’ve got so many volunteers, players, and supporters who give their time and energy year-round, and we want them to feel welcome here 365 days a year.

Jon Dean, who sits on both committees, has been one of the driving forces behind the Lowfield365 concept. Dean believes this latest collaboration is another key step in transforming Lowfield into the sporting focal point of the town.

This is exactly what we’ve been working towards,” Dean said. “Lowfield is a shared home for cricket, football, and the local community. We want it to be somewhere that’s open, welcoming, and buzzing with activity every single week of the year.

Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen so much progress — facility upgrades to community events, from shared volunteer projects to now this joint membership benefit. It’s proof that when two clubs with proud histories come together, everyone wins.

The partnership between Hoddesdon Cricket Club and Hoddesdon Town Football Club continues to go from strength to strength and both clubs have shown that cooperation, not competition, is the key to long-term success. The Lowfield365 initiative — and now this new reduced entry arrangement — symbolises a wider vision for the future of the ground. The aim is to make Lowfield a vibrant, inclusive sporting and social venue that serves Hoddesdon every day of the year.
