Hoddesdon Cricket Club’s thriving junior section brought another memorable season to a fitting conclusion on Friday evening, as Lowfield hosted a packed and hugely enjoyable Junior Presentation Evening.

Hundreds of junior players, parents, senior cricketers, coaches and volunteers came together on a wonderfully warm summer evening to celebrate everything that has been achieved over the past few months. From the moment the gates opened, Lowfield was alive with activity, laughter and the unmistakable sound of young cricketers enjoying themselves at their home ground.

The evening began with the usual programme of All Stars and junior training, coaching, fun and games out on the field. Bats were swinging, balls were flying and youngsters of all ages were able to enjoy one final big Friday night session before the start of the school summer holidays.

While the cricket remained at the heart of proceedings, this was also an opportunity to recognise the players who have impressed with their performances, development, commitment and attitude throughout the season. A large collection of trophies was handed out across the Under-9, Under-10, Under-11 and Under-13 age groups, with awards celebrating batting, bowling, improvement, teamwork and the Spirit of Cricket.

The sheer number of people in attendance demonstrated just how far the Hoddy Juniors have come. The queue for the bar stretched out of the door, the food completely sold out and every corner of Lowfield seemed to be filled with players, families and club members enjoying the occasion. Most importantly, the children were happy, engaged and proud to be part of Hoddesdon Cricket Club. Some collected individual awards, others celebrated the achievements of their teammates, but every young player contributed to what has been another enormously positive season for the junior section.

UNDER-9 AWARD WINNERS

The Under-9 Players’ Player award was presented to Jacob, recognising the respect and admiration he has earned from his teammates during the campaign. The Batting Impact award went to Ethan C, while Milo collected the Bowling Impact trophy following his contributions with the ball.

The Breakthrough Player award was presented to Jaxson, celebrating the progress he has made during the season. Max received the Spirit of Cricket award, recognising the attitude, sportsmanship and enthusiasm he has shown both during matches and at training.

U9s

UNDER-10 AWARD WINNERS

For the Under-10s, Leonard was named Players’ Player after an excellent season. Ollie received the Batting Impact award, while Hudson was recognised with the Bowling Impact trophy.

The Breakthrough Player award went to Lenny, with Freya receiving the Spirit of Cricket award. It was an especially successful season for the entire Under-10 squad, with every player also receiving a trophy after the team finished at the top of the league.

That league success was a brilliant reward for the hard work of the players and coaches throughout the summer. It also offered another clear sign of the strength, quality and growing confidence within Hoddesdon’s junior cricket programme.

UNDER-11 AWARD WINNERS

The Under-11 Players’ Player award was won by Ronnie, while Stan collected the Batting Impact trophy. The Bowling Impact award was presented to Albie following his performances during the season.

Max was named the Under-11 Breakthrough Player, recognising his development and growing influence within the team. The Spirit of Cricket trophy went to Charlie, whose approach and conduct represented the values that Hoddesdon Cricket Club wants to encourage across every age group.

UNDER-13 AWARD WINNERS

At Under-13 level, the Players’ Player trophy was presented to Eddie. The Batting Impact award went to Barnaby, while Freddie received the Bowling Impact trophy after making his mark with the ball.

The Breakthrough Player award was won by William, with George collecting the Spirit of Cricket award. The Under-13 players have continued to develop their skills and understanding of the game, with many now moving closer to the point at which they can begin making the transition into senior cricket.

Although trophies naturally formed a major part of the evening, the success of the junior section extends far beyond results and individual performances. Every training session, team selection, matchday, refreshment stop and presentation requires an enormous amount of preparation and commitment behind the scenes.

Junior Chairman Clive Lewis, Junior Secretary Melissa Lee, Junior Committee member and coach Mick Billson, and the club’s entire team of coaches and volunteers deserve huge praise for their work. Their time, energy and dedication have helped create an environment in which children can learn, improve, make friends and develop a lifelong love of cricket. The club would also like to thank every parent and guardian who has supported the junior section during the season. Whether transporting players to training and matches, helping with equipment, encouraging from the boundary or simply ensuring youngsters arrive at Lowfield each week ready to give their best, their contribution is essential to everything Hoddesdon is trying to build.

Above all, congratulations and thanks must go to the junior players themselves. Their enthusiasm, determination and willingness to learn have made Friday evenings at Lowfield one of the highlights of the cricketing week.

Clive Lewis said “Friday night was a brilliant celebration of everything our junior section has achieved this summer. To see Lowfield so busy, with children, parents, coaches, volunteers and senior players all together, showed just how much the section continues to grow. The trophies are important because they recognise performances and progress, but the biggest success is seeing so many children enjoying cricket and wanting to come back every week. Hoddy Juniors are getting bigger and better, and that is down to the fantastic support we receive from so many people.”

Mick Billson added “The children have been superb throughout the season. They have listened, worked hard, improved their skills and, most importantly, enjoyed themselves, so it was wonderful to see them proudly collecting their awards.”

“Coaching junior cricket is incredibly rewarding because you can see confidence growing from week to week. Nights like this make all the planning and hard work worthwhile, and every coach and volunteer should be extremely proud of what has been achieved.”

Finally, Melissa Lee, heaped praise on all in attendance.

“The turnout was incredible and created such a special atmosphere at Lowfield. The bar was busy, the food sold out and there were happy children everywhere, which is exactly what we want from our junior presentation evening. A huge thank you must go to the parents for their commitment and support throughout the season, as well as to all our coaches and volunteers. Above all, the children deserve enormous credit because their enthusiasm is what makes the junior section such a joy to be part of.”

The Trophies

Nights such as Friday’s presentation evening show exactly what a community sports club can offer. Lowfield was full, the bar was busy, the food was sold out, trophies were being proudly carried home and hundreds of people were enjoying a summer evening together. Hoddesdon Cricket Club Juniors are getting bigger and better with every passing year, and the future of cricket at Lowfield continues to look incredibly bright.
