Gill Mackenzie Farewell and Funeral Details

Ian Munday11 Jul 2023 - 15:08

A MUCH loved-member and former scorer for Hoddesdon Cricket Club has sadly passed away

Gill Mackenzie died aged 86 on June 23 and was closely linked to the Park View club for more than 50 years. She was well known for her scoring skills for Hoddesdon Cricket Club and Hertfordshire Cricket and collated many years of statistics on all players. Gill scored for Hoddesdon from the 1970s until around 10 years ago. Subsequently she watched matches regularly with her husband John after frequenting local Hoddesdon restaurants where they lunched each weekend together and was always keen to observe the action and talk to anybody visiting the club.

Hoddesdon chairman Ian Munday said: “Gill was a huge part of Hoddesdon Cricket Club for so many years, a passionate cricket enthusiast, a supporter and friend to so many. Gill dedicated countless hours to Hoddesdon CC and Hertfordshire CCC, meticulously scoring and collating statistics of all games. Her love for the sport and unwavering commitment to updating the club records, has left an indelible mark on our clubs’ history. The huge number of condolences that have been received by the club shows just how deeply Gill was respected by everyone. Beyond her scoring expertise, Gill was fondly known as an amusingly forthright individual who demanded to know the “bowlers name” and we wished anyone ‘good luck’ who stood in front and blocked her view during a game! Gill offered insight and encouragement to so many players at the club and her presence during matches, with pens and scorebook in hand, was a comforting sight to many and her absence will be felt profoundly by the entire club. We extend our deepest condolences to her husband John and son Duncan who played at the club for 15 years before moving to South Wales with his wife Rhian and son Rhys”
