Exciting Development Plans Unveiled for Hoddesdon Cricket Club and Lowfield

The cricket season begins next weekend with the clubhouse welcoming cricket club and all lowfield365 club members back for an exciting summer. A summer where the excitement levels have just increased hugely due to news received in recent days.

We are absolutely delighted to share some hugely exciting news that marks the beginning of what could be a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Hoddesdon Cricket Club.

Back in December 2024, Broxbourne Borough Council invited expressions of interest from local clubs to become the main tenant—or co-tenants—of a brand-new sports facility at High Leigh. Recognising the potential of this opportunity for our club and the wider sporting community, Hoddesdon Cricket Club joined forces with Hoddesdon Football Club to submit a joint proposal in January.

We are thrilled to announce that the Council have confirmed that our joint submission is the one they wish to proceed with!

This project represents a significant investment in local sport, with a development budget of up to £1.5 million allocated by the developers. Not only will this provide our club with access to an additional local ground and a brand-new purpose-built pavilion, but there’s more: the developers have also indicated no objection in principle to some of the funding being used to support improvements at our home ground, Lowfield. While the pavilion at High Leigh remains the primary focus, this flexibility opens the door to improvements that could benefit both current and future generations.

To put it simply—this could transform the future of Hoddesdon Cricket Club.

The next step is to review the developers' pavilion plans and begin informal discussions with the Council in the coming week or two. We’ll provide a further update once those conversations are underway.

Of course, a project of this size and importance will require the dedication and involvement of our full club community. Over the coming weeks, we will be forming several sub-working groups to support areas such as planning, funding, design, logistics, and more. We’ll be calling on volunteers to help shape and drive this once-in-a-lifetime project forward—so please do consider how you might be able to contribute and to lodge any interest with our secretary, Clive Lewis (c.lewis15@btinternet.com)

This is a genuinely exciting moment for our club, and with your support, we can ensure Hoddesdon Cricket Club continues to thrive for years to come.

We’ll be in touch again soon. Thank you, as always, for your support and we also thank our partners, Hoddesdon Football Club.

Ian Munday

Chairman
Hoddesdon Cricket Club
