This Saturday, September 6th, will see Hoddesdon Cricket Club come together for one of its most anticipated traditions – the End of Season Party at Lowfield, affectionately known as the annual “Drink the Bar Dry” night. But this year, the event takes on a deeper, more emotional significance.

Not only does it mark the curtain closing on another season of cricket at Lowfield, but it will also be the final evening at Lowfield for one of the club’s most devoted families. Antony Higgs, wife Sophie, and their children Fin, Imogen, and Callum will soon be starting a new chapter of their lives in Australia, leaving behind countless friends and memories at Hoddesdon CC.

A Family of Mainstays

The Higgs family have been woven into the fabric of the club for many years. Ant, in particular, has been a stalwart of the side, contributing both on and off the pitch. Whether it’s been lending his experience on matchdays, supporting junior development, or mucking in with the everyday running of the club, he has been ever-present.

Sophie too has been a hugely positive force at Lowfield, always lending her time and enthusiasm to club life and events, while the children – Fin, Imogen, and Callum – have grown up around the ground, embodying the next generation of Hoddesdon cricket. Together, the Higgs family have come to represent everything that is special about a community club: family values, loyalty, and the willingness to give back.

Their departure for Australia will leave a big gap, and while the whole club wishes them well, there’s no doubt they’ll be sorely missed by teammates, supporters, and friends alike. Saturday night is, therefore, not just an end-of-season bash – it’s a chance to give the Higgs family the send-off they truly deserve.

A Night to Remember

The festivities will begin at 7pm, shortly after the 1st XI bring the curtain down on their home campaign with a final league fixture against Reed Cricket Club. Once the action on the field is complete, all attention will turn to the clubhouse, where the bar will be stocked, the music primed, and the dancefloor ready.

The traditional “Drink the Bar Dry” challenge will once again take centre stage, but with a twist – this year’s edition is all about celebrating the Higgs family’s time at the club and raising a glass in their honour.
