The second league game of the season saw a confident Hoddesdon 2nd XI take on Northwood Town.
Following heroics with the bat in last weeks threes, Anthony Higgs and Ross Angelini came into a strong batting lineup with Joe Duke coming into the spin biased bowling attack.
Following Northwoods close game with Reed the week previous it was destined to be a tight affair. Kevin Walls started proceedings trapping the opener LBW before an excellent run out from Shaun Brown removed his opening partner. Northwoods 3 and 4 built a good partnership before Harry Mason removed Unalkat for 46.
It was then time for Adam Sturdy to take centre stage. The effective Lawrence removed for 76, followed by batsmen 6 7 and 9, completing with figures of 4-57. Kevin Walls added to his collection of wickets and finished with 2-52, before Mason also joined the party with two more, finishing on 3-36. Duke Murray and Fryers all bowled excellently with little reward, and despite a below par fielding standard Hoddesdon bowled Northwood Town out for 251.
Fryers and Leat set hoddesdon to an explosive start, with some outstanding shots being played , before Leat was removed, after scoring a fantastic 70. As ever a wise Anthony Higgs (26) guided the ball around the field, whilst Fryers (89) continued to pierce the bowling attack before both were removed. A stellar innings from Ross Angelini (37) added to Hoddesdon's fine chase. Sturdy (4) and Brown (7) were removed quickly and with Hoddesdon closing in on the target Max Murray continued his explosive form with the bat, with an excellent drive over the bowlers head to complete the chase, with Hoddesdon 252/7 off 47.4 overs.
A great win, with many areas of improvement which will encourage the skipper ahead of next weeks fixture at home to West Herts, where they hope to make it 3 in 3.
