New club coach outlines the exciting structure and expectations for HCCs senior teams

Hello all ?,

I hope this email finds you well. You are probably aware that I have taken over the role of Hoddesdon 'club coach' for the current 2024 season. I am very excited to work with all players and will primarily be working with the seniors (those aged 14+ who are ready and able to play senior cricket) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I will also be offering support to the junior coaches as needed for them to plan their sessions with the juniors when the junior sessions are held on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings as per previous years.

During the winter, I had the opportunity to work with the juniors and I'm excited to continue working with all of you throughout the summer. If we haven't had the chance to meet yet, please feel free to introduce yourself the next time you see me. You might have spotted me training on Wednesday nights.

I would like to take this opportunity to discuss the structure and expectations for our outdoor training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the Seniors.

Structure:

On Tuesdays, we will be using the square with the roll-on cage. We will have two nets in use for skill development and fielding drills will be conducted simultaneously. Wicket keepers, please don't worry, we've got you covered. ?

Thursdays will consist of open net practice on the square, focusing on game-based or realistic training to prepare ourselves for Saturday matches. Again, two nets will be used simultaneously.

Every session will conclude with a challenge, whether it's a fielding, batting, or bowling challenge, to add some enjoyment after an intense training session. - the key thing is ENJOYMENT

Once the season starts, after each game, I will meet with the captains and vice-captains from all teams to discuss the following:

1. Play: We will discuss the team's approach to the game and specific situations that arise.

2. Reflect: We will reflect on the game and identify areas for improvement, both individually and as a team.

3. Practice: We will focus on learning and improving the identified areas during our practice sessions.

4. Plan: We will create a plan for the upcoming game and discuss how to execute it effectively.

This cycle will be repeated throughout the season, helping each player elevate their game to the next level and ultimately aim for victory.

Expectations:

1. I kindly request that you let me know your availability for training on a weekly basis by Monday night at 8 pm. This will allow me to assign you to a group based on your skills and the requirements for that week, according to the cycle mentioned above. Until I get to know each individual and their skills, I may seek assistance from the captains or experienced players.

2. Punctuality is greatly appreciated. Please make an effort to be on time for training so that we can start as a united group. Don't just wait for training to begin, be prepared and ready for it.

At the end of each training session, I expect everyone to finish together as a group, help put away the equipment, and stay for the debrief of the session. This will mark the end of the day's session.

3. In the event of poor weather, training will still be on. Remember, training is not just about physical activities, but also mental and lifestyle aspects. It's a great opportunity to learn from each other, ask specific questions to the coach or senior players, and most importantly, get to know each other as individuals. Building strong relationships within the club is crucial for our success.

When I joined the main HCC WhatsApp group, I noticed the group description, which said, "Your attitude to fielding tells your teammates how much you care." I found this to be brilliant, and I would like to introduce my four pillars for us to be successful as one team and one club, and to become the best cricket club in Hertfordshire once again.

1. Attitude:

Your attitude is always visible to others. I encourage you to always approach every training session and game with the right mindset and attitude. Imagine the impact if every person had the right attitude - no one would easily give up, and everyone would push themselves to their limits. Just imagine the energy and intensity of our training sessions and game days. Let's harness the power of a positive attitude.

2. Effort and enjoyment

Give your best effort during training. Avoid being lazy or holding back, thinking that you'll save your efforts for the game. Remember, if you don't train with your best effort, it may not translate into success during a game. Whether it takes 15 minutes or 2 hours, give it your all and you will enjoy it more.

3. Commitment:

I expect each individual to commit to everything we are working towards as a group. A committed player stands out, and their dedication is evident to everyone. I don't need to explain the importance of having a committed team. Just imagine the impact if the whole club is committed to a common goal.

4. Respect & Care:

As the group description suggests, please treat each individual with respect. When we play the beautiful game of cricket, everyone is equal, and we must care for one another. This will set us apart from other teams

For those that are not aware, I am a level 3 coach and will be available to be booked for additional 1-1 sessions for juniors and seniors throughout the season. I know many of you already as I already coach quite a few Hoddesdon juniors in 1-1s and I will send further details about availability and pricing in due course.

Please ensure your details are correct in pitchero as availability for training and matches along with match selections will be conducted through this and I cannot wait to meet you all.

Regards,

Gagan.
