The Under 10's take the league title

League season report:

26.04.19. Under darkening skies at St Mags the U10s emerged from a long winter spent at the indoor nets to play their first outdoor game. Maybe a little under-cooked, they lost a close competitive match by 6 runs. They were pretty upset, never nice to lose to some of your schoolmates, in the dark being bitten by midges!

Next up a few days later, a home game to N Enfield. The parents were under blankets with cuppas, the Colts were however, warming up nicely. A win by 50 runs, we're off and running.

On wards to another home game versus local rivals Broxbourne. A warmer night and the Colts are on fire with a massive win by 85 runs!!

Then, match 4. The big one. Rained off initially, re-scheduled for half term. A barmy Thursday night away to Stortford. Never normally a happy hunting ground for our group, but this year is different. 2 U9s on debut (Imogen and Roly). Fin H thriving off the nervous energy. Jack like a coiled spring. Ollie determined. Fin T & Ronnie focused. Felix Baxendale on fire. Stortford dispatched by 40 runs! A first win versus the Bishops for years at this age group!

Back to Lowfield on a boiling Sunday morning, welcoming St Mags to the fortress. A 56 run victory and 12 wickets taken with 3 catches and 2 run outs. The Colts are stunning the opposition coaches with their team spirit and demanding respect.

Match 6, a big challenge. Again it's a scorcher. N Enfield away, on a slope, on an ASTRO strip! Quite a tactic. However after 12 overs we've only conceded 4 runs! 2 batsmen come to the crease and start smashing the cover off the ball. This is a test. Heads don't drop, the Colts dig very deep and pull off a 28 run victory. The post match chat is dominated by frustration that we didn't do ourselves justice, we need to sort it out, this isn't Hoddy.

7 days later and we're back to Hoddy on a rainy Sunday to entertain Stortford again. Off for 15 mins due to a torrential downpour. The Hoddy Colts are determined to play, all out under temporary shelters eager to get going. We're on and Stortford are dispatched by 47 runs with 12 wickets in the bag again. Run outs, catches and perfect wicket to wicket bowling. The other Hoddy Age group colts stop and stare, in awe of this team setting the standard for the young Green Machines.

Last match away to Broxbourne. Morale is high, but focus is needed. Everyone is sapped by the heat, a tight 10 run win is delivered. Grit and determination. A tough spirited game, enjoyed by all spectators. 30 points earned very hard.

Top of the league. A massive achievement! Bring on the QFs. We will dig deep with everything, onwards the Green Machine U10s!!

The squad of 10 players have all contributed as a unit when needed in every game. There is no one stand out performer, they all perform to 100% every week, together. Also they are helped by incredible support from the sidelines by some incredible parents, a MASSIVE THANK YOU to you all for driving the Colts to every training session all winter and every match all spring/summer!!!!
